First Lady Returns to Partnership Schools in East Tennessee

Visits begin her second round of school visits in Carter, Unicoi, McMinn, and Hamilton counties

NASHVILLE – First Lady Crissy Haslam is in East Tennessee today and tomorrow making return trips to several area schools. Mrs. Haslam announced in May that she would partner with 10 schools across the state to focus on improving literacy rates, including Happy Valley Elementary in Johnson City, Unicoi Elementary in Unicoi, Etowah Elementary School in Etowah, and Red Bank Elementary in Chattanooga.  As part of this partnership, Haslam plans to visit these schools several times throughout the 2011-2012 school year.

First Lady Crissy Haslam joins event at Isaiah T. Creswell Arts Magnet Middle School in Nashville

NASHVILLE –First Lady Crissy Haslam attended an “Artists in Schools” event in Nashville for the National Folk Festival in partnership with Metro Nashville Public Schools, sponsored by The Recording Academy. The 73rd Annual National Folk Festival is the oldest and longest-running celebration of traditional music and arts in the nation. The traveling festival is free and will be hosted in Nashville through 2013.

First Lady Crissy Haslam joins farmers and young students for an educational event

NASHVILLE –First Lady Crissy Haslam joined the Robertson County Farm Bureau, local farmers, and approximately 175 third graders for an Ag Literacy workshop in Springfield on Thursday. Farm Days is a two-day event to educate young children about farm life by giving them hands-on experiences and agriculture education materials.

Mrs. Haslam joins Ride for Reading to deliver books to Davidson County students

NASHVILLE – First Lady Crissy Haslam partnered with Ride for Reading to deliver books via bicycle to Cole Elementary in Antioch today. Mrs. Haslam joined volunteer cyclists for a 5.5 mile bike ride from Brentwood Hills Church of Christ to Cole Elementary School where they were greeted by several teachers, parents, and students.

Mrs. Haslam joins parents and grandparents at Whitsitt Elementary

NASHVILLE – First Lady Crissy Haslam visited Whitsitt Elementary in Nashville today to observe a literacy workshop for parents and grandparents of elementary school children.

Love. Read. Learn! is an evidence-based program developed by the Volunteer USA Foundation. The literacy workshop offers a unique approach to coaching parents on valuable literacy skills for their elementary-aged children. Nationally, the Love. Read. Learn! workshops have trained more than 75,000 families.
