NASHVILLE – Governor and Mrs. Haslam visited a classroom at Scales Elementary School in Brentwood on Wednesday. The First Couple visited the school in support of the Governor’s Books from Birth Foundation in partnership with Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library.

Cabinet to create comprehensive strategy focused on Tennessee children’s well-being

NASHVILLE – Tennessee Gov. Bill Haslam and First Lady Crissy Haslam today announced the governor will issue an executive order refocusing and restructuring the Governor’s Children’s Cabinet, which they will co-chair.

This makes the Governor’s Children’s Cabinet the only one in the country co-chaired by both a governor and the spouse, according to the National Forum for Youth Investment, and the group through collaboration and cooperation will create a comprehensive strategy focused on issues such as children’s physical and mental health, education, safety and overall well-being.

First Lady Crissy Haslam reads to 330 students at Overbrook School in Nashville

NASHVILLE—First Lady Crissy Haslam visited Overbrook School in Nashville today to celebrate and promote a love of reading among students as part of the “Readers are Leaders” program. Overbrook School started the program in 1989, which includes a school-wide assembly where local celebrity guests read their favorite books to students.

First Lady Hosts Luncheon to Kick-Off Residence Landscape Project

Private fundraising event will help renovate historic landscape of 90 year old Tennessee Residence

NASHVILLE – First Lady Crissy Haslam hosted the First Lady’s Luncheon to garner private funds for renovations and restorations of the Tennessee Residence grounds.  Private funds will be used to restore the landscape back to its original design and will incorporate vegetation native to Tennessee.  Funding will also be used to create an inventory system to document existing infrastructure and vegetation on the property and to create a plan to ensure the health and sustainability of the restored and renovated landscape.

Mrs. Haslam participates in Jumpstart’s Read for the Record Campaign in Nashville

NASHVILLE – First Lady Crissy Haslam sat down with 70 Pre-K students at Napier Enhanced Option Elementary in Nashville today to read Llama Llama Red Pajama by Anna Dewdney.  Haslam is a proponent for early childhood literacy and was invited to preview Jumpstart’s Read for the Record campaign.  The event sponsored by Jumpstart and Pearson Foundation aims to set a new world record for the most people reading the same book on the same day.  The official day to “Read for the Record” is Thursday, October 6.

NASHVILLE – Representatives of the Nashville Local Organizing Committee (NLOC) for the 2014 NCAA Women’s Final Four announced today that the First Lady of Nashville Anne Davis along with the First Lady of the State of Tennessee, Crissy Haslam, will serve as Honorary Chairs for the NCAA Women’s Final Four.
