Weekly Construction Report for East Tennessee Week of December 22-28, 2011

BLOUNT COUNTY, TN-73 Scenic (East Lamar Alexander Parkway) at Stables Drive in Townsend:East Lamar Alexander Parkway (TN 73-Scenic) at Stables Drive, near the entrance to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, in Townsend will be reduced to one lane controlled by a temporary traffic signal at various times for the bridge construction project on Stables Drive. Traffic on Stables Drive is also being controlled by a temporary traffic signal. Two travel lanes will be open on Scenic 73 during periods when the contractor is not present and during times when work activities are being performed on the opposite side of the Little River that do not require additional space alongside the roadway. The temporary traffic signals that are currently in place will be set to a cautionary flash during times that both lanes are available for travel. When the lane restriction is in place, the traffic signals will be activated to control the traffic movement one direction at a time. Motorists in this area should be alert for changing conditions, expect potential delays and use extreme caution in this area. 
 
(Recovery Act Project) CAMPBELL COUNTY, US25W (SR 9) Bridge between Old Jacksboro Hwy. and Cougar Ln:   Motorists should be alert for workers present and use caution as crews complete final items through this bridge construction project.
 
CARTER COUNTY, SR 91 over Holly Springs Branch at Log Mile 13.07: Motorists should be alert for a one lane condition with a temporary traffic signal controlling traffic in this area. Motorists should be prepared to stop and use caution traveling through this structure replacement project.
 

TDOT Halts Highway Construction for Busy Holiday Travel Period

NASHVILLE – Holiday travelers should enjoy a smooth drive through Tennessee during the busy Christmas and New Year’s travel holidays. The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) is once again halting all lane closure activity on interstates and state highways in anticipation of higher traffic volumes across the state.  
 
No temporary lane closures will be allowed for construction on Tennessee roadways beginning at noon on Friday, December 23, 2011 through 6:00 a.m. on Monday, January 2, 2012.
 
 
“Nearly two million Tennesseans are expected to hit the roads to visit family and friends during this busy holiday travel period,” said TDOT Commissioner John Schroer. “We want to do everything possible to minimize delays and provide maximum capacity on Tennessee roadways. We also want drivers to obey the rules of the road and arrive safely at their destinations.”

Bridge Replacement Project Requires Long Term Lane Closures on Gallatin Road

NASHVILLE – – Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) contract crews are almost underway with the second phase of construction to replace two deteriorating bridges on Gallatin Road in northern Davidson County. The bridges cross over the CSX Railroad near Anderson Lane in Madison, with one bridge carrying northbound traffic and the other carrying southbound traffic on Gallatin Road.


From now through May 2014, Gallatin Road will be reduced to one lane in each direction in this area

DAVIDSON COUNTY, Repair of 14 Bridges over I-440
  • Thursday December 15 and Friday December 16, 9AM-3PM, There will be shoulder closures on I-440 eastbound at Richardson Rd., Hillsboro Rd., Belmont Blvd., Winford Rd., and Lyle Rd. for bridge work. 
  • Saturday December 17 and Sunday December 18, 7AM-6PM, There will be lane shifts on Richardson Rd. bridge in order to perform ramp repairs.
 

Weekly Construction Report for Parts of East and Middle Tennessee for December 15 - 21, 2011

BLEDSOE COUNTY, SR 101 (Lantana Road) bridge repair project over Beaver Dam Creek (LM 6.39): Work on Phase 1 of this project has begun, and traffic has been shifted from the westbound to the eastbound lane.  The bridge has been reduced to one 10’ travel lane, and it is being maintained and controlled by a temporary signal for the safety of the traveling public. Estimated project completion date is September 2012. 
 
BRADLEY COUNTY, SR-60 (Dalton Pike) road widening from near Gilliland Road to U.S. 64 (SR-311): The contractor continues work on the project. Warning signs are posted and flaggers will be present to assist with traffic control. Estimated project completion date is June 2012.

DYER COUNTY, STATE ROUTE 211Bridge repair work on State Route 211 at log mile 6.04 will cause a reduction in lanes from two to one lane every day. Northbound lanes for Phase 1 construction are closed and a temporary traffic signal is in place.

Interstate Construction Report for December 8-14, 2011

Montgomery & Robertson Counties:Thursday December 8 through Wednesday December 14, (excluding weekends), 9AM-12PM,  There will be one lane periodically closed on I-24 in both directions in Montgomery and Robertson Counties to move equipment between mile marker 25 and mile marker 14 in order to trim vegetation overhanging the roadway.  One lane will remain open.  This is between exit 24 (SR-49/Springfield and Ashland City) and exit 11 (SR-76/Adams-Clarksville).

MARION COUNTY, I-24 at Exit 152 construction of a concrete Bulb-Tee beam bridge on U.S. 72 (SR-27) including grading, drainage, and paving: The contractor continues work on the bridge.  Any interstate lane closures on I-24 will be at nighttime between 6PM-6AM.  Flaggers and THP will assist with traffic control as needed.  Estimated project completion date is September 2012. 

HAMILTON COUNTY, I-24 resurfacing beginning west of Chattanooga Creek (LM 6.18 / MM 177) to near Crest Rd. (LM 11.35 / MM 183), including bridge deck repair: The contractor has completed all contract items.  The contractor may need either one lane or two lanes closed (only 10PM-5AM) to address punchlist items.  At least one lane of traffic will be maintained at all times.  THP will assist with traffic control.  Estimated project completion date is December 2011.
