NASHVILLE – Governor Phil Bredesen and First Lady Andrea Conte invite the young and young at heart to join them as they host the lighting of the State Capitol Christmas tree at 5 p.m. CST on Monday, November 30.  This year’s holiday festivities will include a special appearance by two of Santa’s reindeer.  They will be on display beginning at 4 p.m. on the south side of the State Capitol roundabout (Charlotte Avenue side).

 

In the spirit of the holiday season, contributions of canned and non-perishable food items for Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee will also be accepted.

NASHVILLE--- State Senator Thelma Harper will join the Tennessee Highway Patrol and the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT), Monday, November 23, 2009, in delivering the “Between the Barrels” presentation to 400 high school students at Pearl Cohn High School in Nashville. The safe driving program, which is geared to students who are just learning to drive, aims to reduce the chances of teens being involved in a dangerous work zone crash.

 

NASHVILLE- The Tennessee Highway Patrol and the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) will deliver the “Between the Barrels” presentation to 400 high school students at Southwind High School, Thursday, November 19, 2009. The Thanksgiving holiday is one of the busiest travel periods of the year. Reaching teens with this safe driving message will not only help keep safety in the front of their minds as they travel, but TDOT and the THP hope teens will also remind their parents about the importance of safe driving when traveling. The goal of the Between the Barrels program, which is geared to students who are just learning to drive, is to save lives and help reduce the chances of a teen driver being involved in a dangerous work zone crash.

 

 

NASHVILLE – The Tennessee Governor’s Highway Safety Office (GHSO) is conducting a special high-visibility enforcement campaign that runs through November 22, 2009. GHSO Director Kendell Poole will join officials for a press event on Thursday, November 19^th to remind drivers that wearing a safety belt is not only the best way to protect yourself in the event of a crash, it is also the law. Drivers will also be told that speed kills and law enforcement agencies will be conducting special enforcement to prevent unnecessary deaths along State Highway 28.

Tennessee State Park officials are pleased to announce that all eight state park restaurants will be open Thursday, Nov. 26, serving their annual Thanksgiving Day feast. Thanksgiving turkey and all the traditional trimmings, along with an assortment of desserts, will be available beginning at 11 a.m. until closing at state park restaurants across Tennessee. Selections and prices will vary depending on location, ranging from $10.95 to $14.95 (excluding drink and gratuity). Group reservations are recommended.

NASHVILLE – Tennessee Department of Transportation Commissioner Gerald Nicely will visit the U.S. 64 rockslide in Polk County, Tennessee on Monday, November 16 to release new details on clean-up of the major rockslide that closed U.S. 64. TDOT will announce a revised timeframe for clean-up and will introduce the emergency repair contractor. The contractor will be on site to answer questions and provide details on the clean-up process.
