Grand Opening for New Lawrence County WIC Clinic

NASHVILLE, Tenn.  – Tennessee Department of Health Community Health Services Director Leslie Humphreys, MPA, will join other state and local officials on Thursday, March 21, for the grand opening celebration at the new Women, Infants and Children clinic at the Lawrence County Health Department in Lawrenceburg.

Tennessee State Veterans Home Staff and MTSU to Offer Memorable Flight to Veteran Residents

NASHVILLE – Tennessee Department of Veterans Affairs Commissioner Many-Bears Grinder will join three Tennessee State Veterans Home residents for a private flight to honor their military service and their love for flying.  Middle Tennessee State University Professor and pilot Terry Dorris will meet the residents at the Murfreesboro Municipal Airport on Monday, March 18 at 1:00 p.m. (CDT) to take each of the Veterans on a brief flight.  Medical personnel will also accompany the residents on the flight.  

State Soil Conservation Committee to Meet March 18

NASHVILLE - The next meeting of the State Soil Conservation Committee will be held March 18 at 10 a.m. in the rear conference room of the Holman Building at the Ellington Agricultural Center, located at 440 Hogan Rd, Nashville, Tenn. 

The agenda includes a review of appointments to SCD boards as well as other business.

The meeting is open to the public. Individuals interested in addressing the committee should plan to arrive prior to the start of the meeting in order to be placed on the agenda.

TDOT HELP Trucks Heading to Bristol

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) will be sending special “HELP” to the Tri-Cities this weekend to assist with the heavy traffic expected in conjunction with NASCAR events at Bristol Motor Speedway on Saturday, March 16 and Sunday, March 17.

TDVA to Host Veterans Outreach Event for Tipton, Lauderdale and Haywood Counties

NASHVILLE – Tennessee Department of Veterans Affairs is partnering with the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), Disabled American Veterans (DAV), Paralyzed Veterans of America, Military Officers Association of America and Military Order Purple Heart to offer a Veterans outreach event for Tipton, Lauderdale and Haywood Counties. 

Representatives from the Tennessee Department of Veterans Affairs (TDVA) and more than 50 state, local and non-profit organizations will be available to answer questions, provide information and assist in enrollment opportunities for Veterans and other eligible beneficiaries.

NASHVILLE – Tennessee Department of Veterans Affairs Assistant Commissioner Don Smith will host a community meeting on March 16, 2013 at Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 2108 at 2905 Buffalo Road in Johnson City at 3:00 p.m. (EDT).  Smith would like to meet with Washington County Veterans, dependents and surviving family members to discuss the need for a County Veterans Service Officer in Washington County.  Tennessee Department of Veterans Affairs (TDVA) Veterans Benefits Representatives will also be available to file claims, answer questions and provide updated information regarding pending Veterans’ claims for federal benefits.

Reason Foundation Finds Improvement Across the Board in Tennessee

 

NASHVILLE – A new study by the Reason Foundation examining 20 years of highway data finds Tennessee has improved in all seven key areas studied, one of only 11 states to do so. The report, Are Highways Crumbling? State Performance Summaries”, looked at state highway data from 1989 through 2008.
