TDVA to Host Veteran Outreach Event in Henry County to Serve Several Communities

NASHVILLE – The Tennessee Department of Veterans Affairs is partnering with federal, state, and local agencies as well as other Veterans Service Organizations in Henry County to offer a veterans outreach event for Henry, Benton, Carroll, and Weakley County veterans and their families.  The large event will be hosted at the Henry County Fairgrounds on Wednesday, May 9 from 10:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m.

 

TDVA to Host the First Annual Women's Veterans Summit in Nashville

NASHVILLE – Tennessee Department of Veterans Affairs Commissioner Many-Bears Grinder will emcee the First Annual Women’s Veterans Summit at the Embassy Suites Hotel Nashville-Airport on Saturday, April 28, 2012. The all-day event will include U.S. Congressman Diane Black, several prominent women veteran speakers, entertainment from Country Music Legend Lee Greenwood, and recognition of the Woman Veteran of the Year. World War II United States Army Veteran Laura Rhodes will also be in attendance during the morning session. The 101-year old Lake County native currently resides at the Tennessee State Veterans Home in Humboldt, but will make a special appearance at this weekend’s inaugural Women’s Veterans Summit.

Warriors’ Path State Park Announces April 23 Event Celebrating the Grand Opening of New Amphitheater

KINGSPORT, Tenn. – Tennessee State Parks will join the Friends of Warriors’ Path State Park and other special guests on Monday, April 23, for the grand opening of the Palmer Center Foundation Amphitheater – the newest addition to the Darrell’s Dream Boundless Playground, which is part of Warriors’ Path State Park.  The event also will commemorate Tennessee State Parks’ 75th anniversary.

Celebration Will Help Commemorate Tennessee State Parks’ 75th Anniversary

 

MANCHESTER, Tenn. – The year 2012 marks Tennessee State Parks’ 75th Anniversary and to help commemorate this important milestone, Old Stone Fort State Archaeological Park will hold a special community event on Monday, April 23, beginning at 2 p.m.   The event coincides with Old Stone Fort’s own 46th anniversary of the park’s dedication in 1966. 

I-24 Resurfacing Project to Begin in Chattanooga, Hamilton County

Project Includes Bridge Deck Repairs; Major Traffic Impact Expected

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - On Sunday evening, April 22, 2012, TDOT contract crews will begin a resurfacing project on I-24 in Hamilton County between mile markers 171 – 177 in and around the Lookout Valley/Tiftonia area to the Georgia state line. This project includes resurfacing and bridge deck repairs. 
 
Most of the work is scheduled to take place at night between the hours of 9:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. on Sundays through Thursdays. However, there are at least four weekends where the contractor will be allowed to have lane closures beginning from Friday night to early Monday morning to perform bridge deck repairs. During the work, at least one lane will remain open to traffic at all times. 

TDVA to Receive Blue Star Memorial Marker at the East Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery

NASHVILLE – Tennessee Department of Veterans Affairs Commissioner Many-Bears Grinder will accept a Blue Star Memorial Marker donated by the Tennessee Federation of Garden Clubs, Inc. The Blue Star Memorial Marker will be dedicated during a ceremony with TFGC officials, Knox County Mayor Tim Burchett and representatives with TDVA.
