PICKWICK DAM, Tenn. – The year 2012 marks Tennessee State Parks’ 75th Anniversary, and to help commemorate this important milestone, Pickwick Landing State Park will hold a special community event on Saturday, June 23, celebrating both the anniversary and the dedication of the newly renovated marina store. 

TDEC to Announce Statewide Clean Tennessee Energy Grant Recipients in Memphis on June 21

Seventeen grants will be announced, including recipients in Shelby and Tipton Counties

Nashville – Department of Environment and Conservation Commissioner Bob Martineau will announce the statewide recipients of the new Clean Tennessee Energy Grants, with more than $2.3 million to be awarded to 17 communities across the state for projects designed to increase costs savings and decrease emissions. 

The announcement will be made in Memphis and will highlight two of the grant winners from the West Tennessee area. The city of Covington in Tipton County will receive $250,000 – the highest grant amount that can be awarded – for a Waste Biomass Gasification to Energy project designed to create electricity and utilize the city’s wood waste and biosolids as fuel. Greene Turbine, LLC in Shelby County is slated to receive $125,000 to commercialize the facility’s unique, patent-pending technology, harnessing hydrokinetic power from underwater turbines in the Mississippi River for delivery to Tennessee’s electrical grid.

ELIZABETHTON, Tenn. – The year 2012 marks Tennessee State Parks’ 75th Anniversary, and to help commemorate this important milestone, Sycamore Shoals State Historic Park will hold a special community event on Thursday, June 21, beginning at 7 p.m. (ET).  The event coincides with Sycamore Shoals’ own 36th anniversary of the park’s dedication in 1976.

CLEVELAND, Tenn. – The year 2012 marks Tennessee State Parks’ 75th Anniversary, and to help commemorate this important milestone, Red Clay State Park will hold a special community event on Thursday, June 14, beginning at 10 a.m.  The event coincides with Red Clay’s own 33rd anniversary of the park’s dedication in 1979. 

Governor Bill Haslam and First Lady Crissy Haslam to Promote the First Lady’s Read20 Family Book Club with Nashville Sounds

NASHVILLE – Tennessee Gov. Bill Haslam and First Lady Crissy Haslam will visit the Nashville Sounds, a minor league affiliate of the Milwaukee Brewers, to promote the First Lady’s Read20 Family Book Club

The Haslams will help distribute copies of Andrew Clements’ Frindle, June’s “Book of the Month,” to the first 200 children to enter the game.  The books are donated by the Phoenix Club of Nashville, a nonprofit organization benefiting the Boys & Girls Clubs of Middle Tennessee.
