KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) is continuing to monitor a rockslide that has shut down one northbound lane on Alcoa Highway (U.S. 129/State Route 115) in Knoxville. The rockslide occurred near Woodson Road around 10:30 p.m. Tuesday night. Southbound traffic is not affected.
FRANKLIN – Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) contract crews will close a section of the eastbound lanes of Cool Springs Boulevard this weekend to install a water line and perform other construction activities. Detours will be in place utilizing Liberty Pike and Franklin Road (see attached map).
Cool Springs Boulevard eastbound will be closed from Mack Hatcher Parkway to Windcross Court beginning Friday January 18 at 8:00 p.m. through Monday January 21 at 6:00 a.m. Signs will direct motorists to use Liberty Pike and Franklin Road for detours around the closure.

Resurfacing beginning east of SR-191 (approximately mile marker 131) and extending to west of the Tennessee River on I-40 near Birdsong Road (approximately mile marker 134) at the Tennessee River Bridge.
NASHVILLE – The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) will continue to display fatality messages on its overhead Dynamic Message Signs, but will do so on a weekly basis rather than daily. TDOT began displaying the fatality numbers on the signs in April 2012 after seeing a sharp increase in fatalities in the first quarter of the year.
“We feel the fatality messages have been extremely successful in increasing awareness about highway deaths across the state this year, and may have helped us stop the dramatic increase we saw early in 2012,” said TDOT Commissioner John Schroer. “We have also heard from drivers who say the messages have caused them to make positive changes in their driving behavior.”
NASHVILLE – Emergency maintenance will be performed this weekend on the James K. Polk Building in downtown Nashville, which houses the Tennessee Department of Transportation’s (TDOT) headquarters offices. This maintenance will cause outages to many TDOT web-based services.
NASHVILLE – The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) has been awarded a $10 million “State of Good Repair Grant” by the Federal Transit Administration (FTA). TDOT collaborated with 15 transit agencies to submit a joint application to FTA for the replacement of transit vehicles that have exceeded their useful life based on years in service or mileage. TDOT is one of only five DOTs to receive a statewide State of Good Repair Grant.
“This joint application reflects the good relationship among Tennessee’s transit agencies, as well as their strong alliance with TDOT,” said TDOT Commissioner John Schroer. “We are excited to assist in this effort, and to help these agencies make upgrades that will benefit users in every region of the state.”
NASHVILLE – The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) today launched a new tool for motorists. The new TDOT SmartWay Mobile App will help drivers navigate Tennessee highways, providing up-to-the-minute customized traffic information. The TDOT SmartWay App is free and available for download in the Apple App Store and Play Store for Android.
“We are excited to be able to provide this tool for motorists, especially on the eve of one of the busiest travel days of the year,” said TDOT Commissioner John Schroer. “The features we’re providing can help travelers avoid congestion and have a safer drive to their holiday destinations.”
NASHVILLE – Road construction will not slow travelers’ busy Christmas and New Year’s travel holidays. The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) is once again halting all lane closure activity on interstates and state highways in anticipation of higher traffic volumes across the state.
No temporary lane closures will be allowed for construction on Tennessee roadways beginning at 6:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 22, 2012 through 6:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 2, 2013.
NASHVILLE – Despite the mild start to winter, the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) is stocked and ready to clear roadways of ice and snow this season. Over the last several weeks, salt supplies have been replenished in all 95 counties, and crews have readied snow plows and brine trucks for the winter season.
“Even small amounts of snow or ice can cripple our transportation system and create dangerous conditions for motorists,” said TDOT Commissioner John Schroer. “We have more than 1200 TDOT employees who are ready to mobilize quickly in the event of winter weather and they will work until our roads are clear.”
