KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – In order to help alleviate the traffic strain on local communities, the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) has worked with the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) to establish a new detour route for wide loads to bypass the I-75 landslide in Campbell County. 

 

This route will also serve as an alternative for passenger vehicles.

 

I-75 Southbound wide loads: Take Exit 62 (Mt. Vernon) in Kentucky and follow U.S. 25 to State Route 461 to State Route 80 to State Route 914 (Bypass) to U.S. 27 into Tennessee and follow SR 63 back to I-75 at Exit 141 (Oneida/Huntsville).

 

I-75 Northbound wide loads: Take Exit 141 (Oneida/Huntsville) in Tennessee and follow State Route 63 to U.S. 27 into Kentucky. Then take State Route 914 (Bypass) to State Route 80 to State Route 461 to U.S. 25 back to I-75 at Exit 62 (Mt. Vernon).

 

 

 

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Interstate-75 South will remain closed until at least Thursday, May 10^th, so that crews can continue to stabilize a section of rock slope near mile marker 143. A section of embankment collapsed in that area on March 8^th.

 

Interstate-75 North will have one lane of traffic open for approximately three miles, from mile marker 141 to mile marker 144.

 

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Starting this evening at 7 p.m., I-75 South in Campbell County will be temporarily closed so that crews can continue to work on a section of embankment that collapsed on March 8.

 

Interstate-75 North will have one lane of traffic open for approximately three miles, from mile marker 141 to mile marker 144.

 

One lane of traffic on I-75 South is expected to re-open by Tuesday at 7a.m. 

 

Nashville, Tenn. – The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) today announced plans to install signalized crosswalks at five intersections along State Route 12 (Ashland City Highway)/US 41A (Fort Campbell Blvd.).

 

Clarksville City Councilwoman Deanna McLaughlin contacted TDOT with safety concerns along Fort Campbell Blvd after several incidents involving pedestrians. From 2007 to 2011, six pedestrians have been killed on Fort Campbell Blvd. TDOT launched a Road Safety Audit Review in June 2011 and has a developed a project designed to provide safer crossing areas for pedestrians.

NASHVILLE – After record-setting reductions in the number of highway fatalities in Tennessee, the state is now seeing a dramatic increase in crash deaths so far in 2012. Preliminary reports show 288 people have died on Tennessee roadways from January 1 through April 27, 2012. During the same period last year, there were 27 fewer crash fatalities across the state.

 

Beginning today, the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) will begin running a daily roadway fatality count on overhead Dynamic Message Signs in the state’s urban areas, along with targeted safety messages reminding motorists to wear their seatbelts, obey the speed limit, and to not text and drive.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee Department of Transportation is joining states across the nation to remind motorists not to barrel through work zones. The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) will spread that message statewide during National Work Zone Awareness Week (April 23-27) in an effort to improve safety in Tennessee’s interstate and highway construction and maintenance work zones. 

 

“We are heading into the busiest construction time of the year, and there will be hundreds of active work zones across Tennessee,” said TDOT Commissioner John Schroer. “Reducing speeds, staying alert, and exercising caution is the best way to ensure workers and motorists stay safe on our roadways.”

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - On Sunday evening, April 22, 2012, TDOT contract crews will begin a resurfacing project on I-24 in Hamilton County between mile markers 171 – 177 in and around the Lookout Valley/Tiftonia area to the Georgia state line. This project includes resurfacing and bridge deck repairs. 

 

Most of the work is scheduled to take place at night between the hours of 9:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. on Sundays through Thursdays. However, there are at least four weekends where the contractor will be allowed to have lane closures beginning from Friday night to early Monday morning to perform bridge deck repairs. During the work, at least one lane will remain open to traffic at all times. 

 

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Work has begun on the repair of a landslide on I-75 in Campbell County, which closed both southbound lanes last month.

 

This week, 2400 linear feet of soil nails will be inserted about 20 feet deep into the ground to stabilize the slope.  During repairs, contract crews will excavate the unstable ground underneath the southbound lanes of I-75 South, fill the area with new rock and dirt, and add new pavement to the reconstructed area. 

 

NASHVILLE – Tennessee Gov. Bill Haslam and Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) Commissioner John Schroer today released the 3 year transportation program, featuring approximately $1.5 billion in infrastructure investments for 96 individual project phases in 55 counties, as well as 10 statewide programs.

 

TDOT is one of only five state DOT’s that does not borrow money to fund projects, and the program continues TDOT’s “pay as you go” philosophy, carrying no debt for any transportation initiatives.

“This program balances transportation needs across Tennessee, focusing on improvements to strategic corridors, maximizing economic development opportunities, and providing key safety improvements,” said Governor Haslam. “A quality transportation system is vital to our goal of making Tennessee the No. 1 location in the Southeast for high quality jobs and the continued growth of the state’s economy.”
