Grant Will Fund Project In Monroe, Mcminn And Polk Counties
Nashville, Tenn. – Governor Phil Bredesen today announced a $44,320 National Scenic Byway Program grant for Monroe County Government. The grants will be used to fund the “Cherohala Skyway Visitor Safety Program” in Monroe, McMinn and Polk Counties.
Grant To Fund Project To Reassess Scenic Byway Program
Nashville, Tenn. – Governor Phil Bredesen today announced a $164,000 National Scenic Byway Program grant to the Tennessee Department of Transportation to fund the “Tennessee Scenic Byways Program – Reassessment and Redevelopment” project.
I-40 at the Jefferson Street Overpass Closed Next Two Weekends
Nashville, Tenn. – The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) announced today a portion of Interstate 40 Eastbound is scheduled to close during the next two weekends in order to perform repairs to the Jefferson Street Bridge. This weekend’s closure will take place from 7pm Friday, October 6 until 5am Monday, October 9. Next weekend’s closure will begin at 7pm October 13, and end at 5am Monday, October 16.

Tennessee Department of Transportation Commissioner Gerald Nicely explained that the grants are made available through the department’s Aeronautics Division. “This Division administers federal and state funding to assist in the location, design, construction and maintenance of Tennessee’s diverse public aviation system,” reported Nicely. “We are pleased to be able to provide millions of dollars each year for the betterment of our airports through our grant programs.”

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Meharry-State Farm Alliance has been honored by the Governor’s Highway Safety Association (GHSA) with the Peter K. O’Rourke Special Achievement Award for significant accomplishes in the field of highway safety. The award was presented at September 19 at the GHSA Annual Meeting Awards Luncheon. Miss America 2006, Jennifer Berry, assisted in the presentation.
