Governor Phil Bredesen to Open Ceremony
ERWIN, Tenn. - The Tennessee Department of Tourist Development and Tennessee Department of Transportation hosted the official grand opening ceremonies of the brand new I-26 Tennessee Welcome Center, today, Monday, May 14 at 1 p.m. EDT. The center is located at I-26 in Unicoi County, near Erwin. The grand opening event was part of Tennessee’s National Tourism and Travel Week festivities.
NASHVILLE - National Travel and Tourism Week will take place throughout the country May 8-16. This year’s theme for the week is “Stand Up and Be Counted,” as cities and travel businesses nationwide rally in support of the industry’s impact on local communities and states.
And, in spite of the challenging circumstances in a number of cities and counties in parts of Tennessee, the Tennessee Department of Tourist Development has announced that many tourism sites throughout the state will participate in this important national event.
NASHVILLE - On May 1 and 2, the city of Nashville and some of the surrounding cities and counties in Tennessee experienced record-breaking rains. While the overall impact of this weekend's weather has not been fully assessed, some of Nashville's popular attractions have sustained flood damage and will be closed for several weeks. CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — The Tennessee Aquarium will celebrate the 40th anniversary of Earth Day from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. April 24.
Earth Day is a grassroots movement to protect vital natural resources. In recognition of its celebration, the aquarium will join more than 100 zoos and aquariums across North America by hosting a "Party for the Planet" celebration.
