TDOT, Tourism & TWRA Partner to Provide Fishing Access at Smith County Welcome Center

New Parking Area at I-40 Welcome Center in Smith County Provides Anglers Access to Caney Fork River
 
NASHVILLE – Anglers now have new access to the Caney Fork River in Smith County thanks to a partnership between the Tennessee Department of Transportation, Tennessee Department of Tourist Development and the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency. A new parking area and access trail to the Caney Fork River is now open at the I-40 Welcome Center in Smith County at mile marker 267. The Welcome Center can be reached by both eastbound and westbound traffic on I-40. The new access area was developed to provide safe, legal access to the popular river for fishing.

NASHVILLE – A new equine trail guide is available now from the Tennessee Department of Agriculture. The new statewide directory, offered free of charge, is the most comprehensive ever published for Tennessee.

Guides can be requested by visiting www.picktnproducts.org. Click on “Equine Resources” to be directed to an online request form, and the guide will be sent by mail.

The 50 page guide features easy to use regional sections combined with symbols to indicate private trails, private stables, overnight stabling, city parks, state parks, national parks & forests, state forests, bed & breakfasts with stabling, cabins, primitive camping, camping with electrical hookups, restroom and shower facilities and even wagon trails. Contact information is included for every location.

Governor Phil Bredesen to Open Ceremony

NASHVILLE – In commemoration of the 150th anniversary of the American Civil War, Tennessee’s Sesquicentennial Commission announces the state’s Inaugural Sesquicentennial Signature Event. Taking place November 12 and 13, the theme of this historic milestone is "The Coming of the Civil War." Governor Phil Bredesen will kick off the event at the Tennessee Performing Arts Center’s Jackson Hall beginning at 10 a.m. CST on November 12.

ERWIN, Tenn. - The Tennessee Department of Tourist Development and Tennessee Department of Transportation hosted the official grand opening ceremonies of the brand new I-26 Tennessee Welcome Center, today, Monday, May 14 at 1 p.m. EDT. The center is located at I-26 in Unicoi County, near Erwin. The grand opening event was part of Tennessee’s National Tourism and Travel Week festivities.

NASHVILLE - On May 1 and 2, the city of Nashville and some of the surrounding cities and counties in Tennessee experienced record-breaking rains. While the overall impact of this weekend's weather has not been fully assessed, some of Nashville's popular attractions have sustained flood damage and will be closed for several weeks. However, many of Nashville's attractions, restaurants, hotels and historic sites remain open for business.

In addition, travelers to other major Tennessee tourism destinations, including Memphis, Chattanooga, Knoxville, the Smoky Mountains and Northeast Tennessee, will find these locations without incident and 100% operational.

Tennessee Aquarium Celebrates 40th Anniversary of Earth Day

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — The Tennessee Aquarium will celebrate the 40th anniversary of Earth Day from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. April 24.

Earth Day is a grassroots movement to protect vital natural resources. In recognition of its celebration, the aquarium will join more than 100 zoos and aquariums across North America by hosting a "Party for the Planet" celebration.
