KNOXVILLE - The Tennessee Department of Revenue will hold its next free bimonthly new business workshop on Nov. 17 from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the department's Knoxville regional office, located at 531 Henley Street. The workshop will be held on the sixth floor in suite 606. 

Sumner County Businessman Surrenders on Sales Tax Evasion Charges

NASHVILLE – Ashok Patel, age 35, surrendered himself to Special Agents of the Tennessee Department of Revenue at the Sumner County Sheriff’s Office on sales tax evasion and theft of property charges on Thursday, Oct. 14, 2010. The Special Investigations Section of the Tennessee Department of Revenue conducted the investigation that led to the indictment and subsequent surrender of Patel, President of Apram, Inc., d/b/a American Discount Tobacco, located in Hendersonville, Tenn. Bond was set at $1,000.

Former Sharps Chapel Business Owner Arrested on Sales Tax Evasion Charges

MAYNARDVILLE, Tenn. – The Special Investigations Section of the Tennessee Department of Revenue conducted the investigation that led to the indictment and subsequent arrest of Dale Williams, age 61, for sales tax fraud. On Oct.3, Williams, former owner of D&A One Stop Market, located in Sharps Chapel, Tenn., was arrested by the Union County Sheriff’s Department.

Bredesen Names Charles A Trost to Lead Department of Revenue

NASHVILLE - Governor Phil Bredesen today named Charles A. Trost commissioner of the Department of Revenue. Trost replaces former commissioner Reagan Farr who left the administration September 1 to return to the private sector.

 

"Charlie Trost is widely recognized for his work and expertise in the areas of state and federal tax law and tax litigation and he also brings to this role extensive experience working with industries and companies moving to or relocating in Tennessee," said Bredesen. "I appreciate his willingness to step in at this time to provide continued leadership to the Department of Revenue and ensure our efforts to create new jobs and attract capital investment to Tennessee are uninterrupted."

Sales Tax Relief Still Available to Individuals Impacted by Flooding

Deadline to Replace Qualified Damaged/Destroyed Items is Sept. 30
 
NASHVILLE - The Tennessee Department of Revenue is reminding Tennesseans affected by flooding and other effects of the severe storms in early May of the Sept. 30 deadline to replace damaged or destroyed items and receive Tennessee sales tax relief.
 
Individuals receiving disaster assistance from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) as a result of the flooding may request a refund of Tennessee sales tax paid on eligible items purchased between May 1, 2010 and Sept. 30, 2010. Eligible items include major appliances and residential furniture used in the individual’s primary residence with a purchase price of $3,200 or less per item, and building supplies used for restoration of the individual’s primary residence with a purchase price of $500 or less per item.
