Former Knox County Businesswoman Surrendered on Sales Tax Evasion Charges

KNOXVILLE – Lena Angela Lampkin, age 51, surrendered herself to Special Agents of the Tennessee Department of Revenue at the Knox County Sheriff’s Detention Center on sales tax evasion and theft of property charges on Tuesday, May 8. The Special Investigations Section of the Tennessee Department of Revenue conducted the investigation that led to the indictment and subsequent surrender of Lampkin, former owner of Angie’s Market & Deli, LLC, located in Strawberry Plains, Tenn. Bond was set at $10,000.

Former Washington County Businessman Pleads Guilty to Sales Tax Evasion

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. - The Tennessee Department of Revenue’s Special Investigation Section conducted the investigation that led to today’s guilty plea of Kevin Lee Hubbs, age 48, to nine felony and three misdemeanor counts of sales tax evasion. Hubbs was sentenced to two years of unsupervised probation and required to perform 24 days of community service. He paid restitution to the state totaling $13,546.49.

Revenue to Conduct Diesel Fuel Compliance Checks in Sumner County on May 28

GALLATIN, Tenn. - The Special Investigations Section of the Tennessee Department of Revenue will be conducting roadside diesel fuel compliance checks in Sumner County during daylight hours on Friday, May 28. Internal Revenue Service fuel compliance officers often participate in these checks and may be present at this location as well as Department of Safety representatives checking registrations and IFTA stickers.

Class 2 Business Taxpayers File with the Department of Revenue by May 31

NASHVILLE – Last legislative session, the 106th General Assembly enacted Public Chapter 530, shifting the administration and collection of business tax from local municipalities and counties to the Department of Revenue. With this change, the Department of Revenue is using its resources and experience in tax administration to provide greater efficiency in the collection process and increased revenue for the State and for local governments. Classification 2 taxpayers must file and pay with the Department of Revenue by May 31. Businesses will continue to obtain business licenses from the county clerks and/or municipal officials.

HUNTSVILLE – Kenneth Lee Burchfield, age 44, surrendered himself to Scott County Sheriff officials yesterday on sales tax evasion charges. The Special Investigations Section of the Tennessee Department of Revenue conducted the investigation that led to Burchfield’s indictment and subsequent surrender. Burchfield owns Kenny’s Rowboat, Inc., a convenience store located in Winfield, Tenn. Bail was set at $10,000.

COVINGTON, Tenn. - The Special Investigations Section of the Tennessee Department of Revenue conducted the investigation that led to the April 16 sentencing of Kawaljeet “Sonny” Bains, former manager of H-K-S Fuel, Inc., on six counts of Sales Tax Evasion (Class E felonies).
