TOSHA Cites Dayton Chemical Manufacturing Company

NASHVILLE — The Tennessee Occupational Safety and Health Administration (TOSHA) has completed its investigation of an August 3, 2006, fatal workplace accident at a chemical manufacturing company located at 411 Manufacturers Road in Dayton, TN. The report cites Fuji Hunt Photographic Chemicals, Inc., with 13 serious citations, with proposed penalties totaling $91,000. The following are the areas cited:

December Unemployment Rate 4.7 Percent

NASHVILLE - Tennessee’s unemployment rate for the month of December is 4.7 percent, down from the seasonally adjusted November rate of 5.0 percent, Commissioner of Labor & Workforce Development James Neeley announced today. In 2005, Tennessee’s unemployment rate for the month of December was 5.4 percent. The national unemployment rate for December is 4.5 percent, the same as the November rate.
“December’s unemployment rate of 4.7 percent brings us to the close of 2006 with a .7 percent decrease from a year ago,” said Commissioner Neeley. “This shows us that through the year Tennessee has been experiencing steady job growth. December is one of three months at the end of 2006 showing an unemployment rate below five percent. This is significant because we haven’t seen the rates below five percent since September of 2001.”
The November-to-December business survey shows employment increases in trade, transportation and utilities, up 7,800 jobs. Employment in local government also increased by 2,000 and professional, scientific, and technical services employment increased 1,400 jobs. Seasonal month-to-month employment decreases took place in manufacturing with 2,000 jobs lost. Leisure and hospitality employment lost 1,200 jobs and state government educational services decreased by 1,000 jobs.

NASHVILLE – Governor Phil Bredesen and Tennessee Department of Labor & Workforce Development Commissioner James Neeley have awarded $21,685 to Unilever-Slim Fast Foods in Tipton County, Tennessee . Incumbent Worker Training grants assist existing employers with training needs and averting possible layoffs. Over the past three years the Incumbent Worker Training grants have totaled more than $5.9 million to assist more than 24,000 employees.

NASHVILLE - Tennessee’s unemployment rate for the month of November is 5.0 percent, up from the seasonally adjusted October rate of 4.5 percent, Commissioner of Labor & Workforce Development James Neeley announced today. In 2005, Tennessee’s unemployment rate for the month of November was 5.5 percent. The national unemployment rate for November is 4.5 percent, up from the October rate of 4.4.

November 2006 Unemployment Figures - County

NASHVILLE – Tennessee’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for November 2006 was 5.0 percent, up from the October rate of 4.5 percent. County unemployment rates for November 2006, released today, show that two county rates decreased, 90 county rates increased, and three county rates remained the same.
