Governor Awards Ironworkers Local 704 Apprenticeship Assistance Training Grant

NASHVILLE – Governor Phil Bredesen and Tennessee Department of Labor & Workforce Development Commissioner James Neeley have awarded $31,000 for an apprenticeship training grant to the Ironworkers Local 704 in Chattanooga, Tenn.  The pilot apprenticeship training grant will help offset the cost of apprenticeship programs to help meet the demand for skill trades workers.

 

Governor Awards Perfect Equipment Inc. Job Training Grant

NASHVILLE – Governor Phil Bredesen and Tennessee Department of Labor & Workforce Development Commissioner James Neeley have awarded $50,000 to Perfect Equipment Inc. in Murfreesboro, Tenn.  Incumbent Worker Training grants assist employers with training needs associated with skills upgrades for their employees.  Over the past three years, Incumbent Worker Training grants have totaled more than $5.7 million to assist more than 22,000 employees.

 

Governor Awards Premier Diagnostics Imaging and OBGYN Associates Job Training Grants

NASHVILLE – Governor Phil Bredesen and Tennessee Department of Labor & Workforce Development Commissioner James Neeley have awarded almost $47,000 for job training to two companies in Cookeville, Tenn. The two companies are Premier Diagnostics Imaging, awarded $25,535, and OBGYN Associates, awarded $21,440.  Incumbent Worker Training grants assist existing employers with training needs and help avert possible layoffs. Over the past three years, Incumbent Worker Training grants have totaled more than $5.7 million to assist more than 22,000 employees.

August 2007 Unemployment Figures - State

NASHVILLE Tennessee Commissioner of Labor & Workforce Development James Neeley announced today Tennessee’s unemployment rate for August was 4.0 percent, down 0.1 percentage point from July and the lowest monthly rate since July 2000. The national unemployment rate for August 2007 is 4.6 percent, unchanged from July.
