Governor Awards More Than $340,000 in Job Training Grants

19 COMPANIES AWARDED GRANTS TRAINING 489 EMPLOYEES
 

NASHVILLE – Governor Bill Haslam and Tennessee Department of Labor & Workforce Development Commissioner Karla Davis have awarded $340,231 in job training grants to 19 companies across the state. Incumbent Worker Training grants assist employers with upgrading skills and avoiding layoffs for their employees.

Rate Decreases in 14 Counties, Increases in 64, is Unchanged In 17


NASHVILLE – County non-seasonally adjusted unemployment rates for October 2012, released today, show the rate decreased in 14 counties, increased in 64, and remained the same in 17.

STATE UNEMPLOYMENT RATE DECREASES ONE-TENTH OF A PERCENTAGE POINT
 

 
NASHVILLE – Tennessee Commissioner of Labor & Workforce Development Karla Davis announced today Tennessee’s unemployment rate for October decreased to 8.2 percent, down from the September revised rate of 8.3 percent. The national unemployment rate for October 2012 was 7.9 percent, 0.1 percentage point higher than the September rate.

STATE UNEMPLOYMENT RATE DECREASES TWO-TENTHS OF A PERCENTAGE POINT
 

NASHVILLE – Tennessee Commissioner of Labor & Workforce Development Karla Davis announced today Tennessee’s unemployment rate for September decreased to 8.3 percent, down from the August revised rate of 8.5 percent. The national unemployment rate for September 2012 was 7.8 percent, 0.3 percentage point lower than the August rate.

DEFINITION OF SUITABLE WORK CHANGES WITH DURATION OF UNEMPLOYMENT


NASHVILLE – The Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development today announced claimants who refuse to accept a suitable offer of employment will be disqualified from receiving unemployment benefits. Recent changes to Employment Security Law redefine what is considered suitable and revise the standard based on the length of time unemployment benefits are received. If the Agency finds a claimant has refused otherwise suitable work based solely upon the rate of pay, then his claim is stopped for refusing such work.
