Governor Awards More Than $120,000 in Job Training Grants

EIGHT COMPANIES AWARDED GRANTS TRAINING 472 EMPLOYEES
 

NASHVILLE – Governor Bill Haslam and Tennessee Department of Labor & Workforce Development Commissioner Karla Davis have awarded $124,713 in job training grants to eight companies across the state. Incumbent Worker Training grants assist employers with upgrading skills and avoiding layoffs for their employees.

DECEMBER 2012 COUNTY UNEMPLOYMENT RATES

NASHVILLE – County unemployment rates for December 2012, released today, show the rate decreased in two counties and increased in 93 primarily due to normal seasonal employment declines.  County unemployment rates are not seasonally adjusted and reflect seasonal employment changes from month to month.

STATE UNEMPLOYMENT RATE LOWEST SINCE 2008
 

NASHVILLE – Tennessee Commissioner of Labor & Workforce Development Karla Davis announced today Tennessee’s unemployment rate for December was 7.6 percent and remained constant from the November revised rate of 7.6 percent. The national unemployment rate for December 2012 was 7.8 percent, also unchanged from the previous month.

30,000 JOBLESS TENNESSEANS ELIGIBLE FOR ADDITIONAL YEAR OF FEDERAL ASSISTANCE


 
NASHVILLEThe American Taxpayer Relief Act, which became law late Wednesday, extends the Emergency Unemployment Compensation (EUC08) program through January 1, 2014. The federal benefits were slated to expire at the end of 2012 with claimants receiving their last payment the first week of January.

NASHVILLE – County non-seasonally adjusted unemployment rates for November 2012, released today, show the rate decreased in 91 counties, increased in one, and remained the same in three.

STATE UNEMPLOYMENT RATE FALLS BELOW NATIONAL RATE
 

NASHVILLE – Tennessee Commissioner of Labor & Workforce Development Karla Davis announced today Tennessee’s unemployment rate for November decreased to 7.6 percent, down from the October revised rate of 8.2 percent. The national unemployment rate for November 2012 was 7.7 percent, 0.2 percentage point lower than the October rate.
