Three Tennessee Sites Added to the National Register of Historic Places

Nashville, Tenn. –The Tennessee Historical Commission has announced three Tennessee sites have been added to the National Register of Historic Places. The National Register of Historic Places is the nation’s official list of cultural resources worthy of preservation.  It is part of a nationwide program that coordinates and supports efforts to identify, evaluate and protect historic resources. The Tennessee Historical Commission administers the program in Tennessee.

Tennessee Selected for EPA Innovation Grant

Nashville, Tenn. – The Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation has been selected to receive a State Innovation Grant from the Environmental Protection Agency to fund the first phase of Tennessee’s Construction Storm Water Excellence Initiative. This national award will provide $200,000 for a four-year storm water project to help local municipalities establish an integrated approach to water resources management for the benefit of water quality.

Local Parks and Recreation Fund and Recreational Trails Program Grants Available

Nashville, Tenn. – The Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation announced today the 2008 grant cycle for the Local Parks and Recreation Fund and Recreational Trails Program, with approximately $13.1 million in grant money available to be distributed to various local governments and other eligible organizations.

Anticipated available funding for the Local Parks and Recreation Fund for acquisition and development is approximately $10.5 million, and $2.6 million has been set aside for the Recreational Trails Program.  These amounts may change pending state and federal legislation.  Applications are due no later than March 7, 2008, an

Household Hazardous Waste Mobile Collection Service in Cumberland and Dyer Counties on Saturday, October 20

Nashville, Tenn. – The Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation’s mobile household hazardous waste (HHW) collection service will be in Cumberland and Dyer Counties on Saturday, October 20, 2007.“Our household hazardous waste mobile collection service provides the people of Tennessee with a safe, environmentally friendly way to dispose of unwanted household chemicals and other potentially hazardous wastes at no cost,” said Environment and Conservation Commissioner Jim Fyke. “This service travels across the state holding collection events in local communities, and we encourage all Tennesseans to take advantage of the opportunity to utilize it.”
