Environment and Conservation Lifts Recreational Water Contact Advisory for a Portion of New River in the Big South Fork

NASHVILLE – The Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation has lifted a recreational water contact advisory for the lower portion of the New River, including a section within the Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area. Due to operational failures at the Huntsville, Tenn. wastewater treatment plant, TDEC issued an advisory for this water body on December 7, 2012.

Seven Tennessee Sites Added to the National Register of Historic Places

NASHVILLE – The Tennessee Historical Commission has announced seven Tennessee sites have been added to the National Register of Historic Places.  The National Register of Historic Places is the nation’s official list of cultural resources worthy of preservation.  It is part of a nationwide program that coordinates and supports efforts to identify, evaluate and protect historic resources.  The Tennessee Historical Commission administers the program in Tennessee.

LEBANON, Tenn. — The Tennessee Healthy Watershed Initiative and Wilson County dedicated a second environmental project Tuesday at the James E. Ward Agriculture Center / Fairgrounds, which includes the implementation of a pervious parking area, rain gardens, nature trails, wetlands, and other techniques to capture and clean stormwater on site before it enters Tennessee’s waters.

Public invited to dedication ceremony at the Wilson County Fairgrounds Dec. 18
