Joins Department of Health and Local Communities to Announce 14 New Permanent Collection Bins Across State

NASHVILLE – The Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation, in partnership with local law enforcement agencies across the state and the Tennessee Department of Health, announced today its plans to introduce 14 new permanent collection bins for Tennessee residents to properly dispose of used or unwanted medication. Today’s announcement will bring the total of permanent collection bins to nearly 40 across the state.

LEBANON, Tenn. – Cedars of Lebanon State Park will host the 36th Annual Elsie Quarterman Cedar Glade Wildflower Festival May 3-4.  Held in partnership with the Center for Cedar Glade Studies of Middle Tennessee State University, this event will offer visitors an opportunity to learn more about the area through seminars, guided nature walks, exhibits, guest speakers and naturalist displays.  All events are free and open to the public.

All 54 State Parks Will Host Hikes April 20-21

NASHVILLE –Tennessee State Parks will sponsor free, guided hikes to celebrate Earth Day 2013 beginning Saturday April 20 through Sunday, April 21. Each state park will host its own special hike, offering a variety of family-friendly activities including wildflowers or waterfalls talks, educational programming, guided historical hikes and re-enactments, and new trail openings.

State Fire Marshal’s Office urges caution with outdoor burning

NASHVILLE, TN – As the weather slowly warms, many Tennesseans are sprucing up their outdoor property. Because these maintenance efforts often include the burning of limbs, lumber and other debris, the State Fire Marshal’s Office wants the public to be aware of outdoor-burning safety precautions.

“Negligent outdoor burning can lead to death, injury, property loss and environmental damage,” says State Fire Marshal and Commerce & Insurance Commissioner Julie Mix McPeak. “Care must be taken to ensure that burnings are conducted safely.”
