Governor Haslam, Commissioner Hagerty Announce New Investment in Greene County, TN

Austin Powder, Inc to Invest $110 Million, Create 80 New Jobs
 
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Governor Bill Haslam and ECD Commissioner Bill Hagerty today joined with executives of Ohio-based Austin Powder, Inc to announce the company’s plan to build a manufacturing facility for the production of liquid ammonium nitrate on a 400 acre site near the intersection of I-81 and Highway 11E in Greene County, Tennessee. The company will invest more than $110 million and create 80 new jobs with an annual payroll of $4 million. The facility will operate under the name U.S. Nitrogen.

Mitsubishi Electric Power Products to Build Transformers in Memphis

$200 Million Investment to Bring 275 HQ and Production Jobs to Tennessee

NASHVILLE – Governor Bill Haslam and Commissioner Bill Hagerty of the Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development today joined with Brian Heery, president and CEO of Mitsubishi Electric Power Products, Memphis Mayor A C Wharton and Shelby County Mayor Mark Luttrell to announce the company’s decision to invest $200 million to build a production facility for electric transformers in the Rivergate Industrial Park in Memphis, Tennessee, creating up to 275 new jobs. The new facility will produce extra-high voltage shell type power transformers and will be Mitsubishi’s national headquarters for the production of heavy electrical equipment. Mitsubishi Electric Power Products, Inc is part of a business group owned by Mitsubishi Electric Corporation of Tokyo, Japan.

West Tennessee Solar Farm Receives Environmental Approval

U.S. Dept. of Energy Issues Finding of No Significant Impact, Project Moves Forward
 
NASHVILLE, TN – Governor Bill Haslam and Commissioner Bill Hagerty of the Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development announced today that the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has completed its environmental review for the West Tennessee Solar Farm in Haywood County and issued a Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI), which means the project complies with all applicable federal regulation for environmental protection. The review was conducted under guidelines specified in the National Environmental Policy Act and was part of the requirement for utilizing American Recovery and Reinvestment Act funding for the project. The finding allows site preparation and installation to begin on the five-megawatt solar array.

ECD Announces 2011 Energy Camps for K-12 Teachers

Statewide Camps Help Teachers Design Energy Conservation Education Programs

NASHVILLE – Economic and Community Development Commissioner Bill Hagerty and ECD’s Energy Policy Office announced today that applications are now available online for the 2011 Energy Camps. The three-day educational sessions provide K-12 teachers with the information and resources needed to teach the science of energy and energy conservation in the classroom and to guide students in becoming leaders in their school and community.
