TIPTONVILLE - The Tennessee Department of Correction is experiencing a critical shortage of nurses at the Northwest Correctional Complex in Lake County.  There are currently 17 full-time RN and LPN positions vacant at the facility.

NASHVILLE - The Department of Correction has now evacuated 307 inmates from a Nashville prison due to flooding.  Several housing units at the Charles Bass Correctional Complex in West Nashville have been affected by the recent flood.

Bredesen Proclaims Corrections Professionals Week

NASHVILLE - Governor Phil Bredesen has proclaimed May 2-8, 2010 as Corrections Professionals Week in Tennessee.  More than 5,000 men and women work in state correctional facilities in various positions including officers, teachers, counselors and food service employees.

Bledsoe Prison Groundbreaking

PIKEVILLE, Tenn. - The Tennessee Department of Correction held a groundbreaking ceremony today for the new state-of-the-art Bledsoe County Correctional Complex.  The prison expansion in Pikeville, Tennessee was first announced in 2004 based on population projections which indicated the need for additional beds.

NASHVILLE - The Tennessee Department of Correction is in need of nurses to fill several positions at the Lois M. DeBerry Special Needs Facility in Nashville.  There are currently 68 part-time RN and LPN positions available at the facility.  Pay ranges from $14.01 to $26.32 per hour.   The positions offer flexible hours and the potential for full-time employment.

Execution Time Change

NASHVILLE - The Tennessee Department of Correction will carry out capital punishment sentences at a new time beginning June 1, 2010.  In the past, sentences of death have been executed at 1:00 a.m. in order to give the department enough time to proceed on the scheduled date and to minimize interference with institutional operations.  For executions set on or after June 1, 2010, the process will begin at 10:00 p.m.
