MCCX Inmate Escape

WARTBURG - The Tennessee Department of Correction Internal Affairs Division continues its search for an inmate who escaped from a minimum-custody housing unit in Morgan County during the holiday weekend.  Inmate Robert Lee Grant, 23, broke out of the Morgan County Correctional Complex - Annex by scaling a fence just before midnight on Christmas Eve.

  • News media will be allowed at the following sites for the execution

    • The RMSI parking lot area set aside for news media.
    • The area set aside for the general public.  The area set aside for the general public is located north of the Riverbend parking lot and is accessible via Cockrill Bend Boulevard.  This area is roughly 1/4 mile past the prison on Cockrill Bend Boulevard.  (Note:  Members of the media assigned to the general public area are asked to check in with TDOC communications officer/designee prior to entering these areas.)

NASHVILLE - In accordance with state law, the Department of Correction is now accepting applications from recognized news organizations to serve as statutorily required witnesses for the scheduled execution of death row inmate Billy Ray Irick.  The execution is currently scheduled for 10 p.m. CST on December 07, 2010.

TDOC Women's Prison Joins Fight Against Breast Cancer

NASHVILLE - A group of inmates at the Tennessee Prison for Women is lending a hand in the fight against breast cancer.  More than 260 inmates along with prison staff and volunteers will take part in a 5K walk to help raise money for the American Cancer Society.  The event, at the prison track, will coincide with the American Cancer Society's Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk this Saturday at LP Field.

Death Row Inmate Glenn Mann

NASHVILLE - Tennessee death row inmate Glenn Bernard Mann has died of natural causes at Nashville General Hospital.  Mann, 39, was convicted of First Degree Murder, Aggravated Rape and Aggravated Burglary in Dyer County.  He was sentenced to death on July 19, 1994 for the 1993 murder of Annie Lou Wilson, 62, of Dyersburg.

Escapee Captured

ROAN MOUNTAIN - An inmate who escaped from the Department of Correction custody Tuesday afternoon has been captured.  Brian Knighton, 34, was being housed at the Northeast Correctional Complex - Annex in Mountain City.  He was assigned to a work crew at Roan Mountain State Park when he escaped just after 3:30 p.m. Tuesday afternoon.

MLCC Raises Awareness of Victims' Rights

BOPP/TDOC Joint Plan Saves State $33 Million In First Year

NASHVILLE - The Board of Probation & Parole and the Department of Correction have saved Tennessee taxpayers more than $33,000,000 during fiscal year 2009-2010 through implementation of their Joint Offender Management Plan.  Figures reported to the Select Oversight Committee on Corrections show the two agencies achieved 87% of their first year savings goal, delaying the need for construction of a new prison from 2016 to 2020.
